At an oil refinery, our NDT technicians carried out ultrasonic wall thickness measurements on a column for one week.
What made this job special was the high temperature of the surface being measured, and there was a need to find a solution that would allow measurements to be taken at the same locations in the coming years without having to remove the insulation each time.
In consultation with the client, it was decided to cut a hole in the insulation and then seal it after the measurements with a sleeve and a plastic cap. This solution made future inspections quick and easy without the need to remove the insulation again.
